The Bill Drill, designed by Bill Wilson, is a fundamental exercise aimed at enhancing speed without compromising accuracy. It focuses on improving essential skills such as sight tracking, recoil management, and trigger manipulation, making it a staple for shooters looking to refine their rapid-fire capabilities.
Course Setup:
Range: 7 yards.
Target: Standard IPSC target.
Start Position: Gun in holster, hands at the surrender position.
Rounds Fired: 6 rounds total.
Drill Execution:
On the start signal, draw from the holster and fire six shots at the target as quickly as possible while maintaining accuracy.
The goal is to achieve six hits on the target, focusing on sight tracking through recoil and firing the next shot as soon as an adequate sight picture is achieved.
Emphasis is placed on firing as soon as the front sight comes back onto the scoring zone, without waiting for perfect sight alignment or a complete stop of the sights.
Goal:
Time Target: 2 seconds or less, breaking down to approximately a 1-second draw and 0.2-second splits between shots.
Performing the drill "cold" (first shots of the day) and achieving all hits in the A-zone within 2 seconds at 7 yards is an indicator of strong shooting proficiency.
