FBI Pistol Qualification (Updated)

The updated FBI Pistol Qualification reflects a focus on practical and realistic scenarios, with shooting distances ranging from 3 to 25 yards. This qualification assesses an agent’s ability to accurately and efficiently engage targets using both strong and support hands, as well as under various time constraints and positions.


Course Setup:

  • Range: 3 to 25 yards.

  • Rounds Fired: Course totals vary by line; the entire qualification uses 60 rounds.

  • Target: QIT-99 Target.

  • Scoring: Each round counts as one point.

  • Minimum Passing Scores: Agents must score at least 48 out of 60; instructors must score 54 out of 60.

  • Start Position: Varied; includes holstered starts and starts from the low ready position.


Course of Fire:

  1. 3-Yard Line:

    • Draw and fire 3 rounds strong hand only, switch hands, and fire 3 rounds support hand only. Complete within 6 seconds.

  2. 5-Yard Line:

    • Draw and fire 3 rounds in 3 seconds.

    • From the Low Ready, fire 3 rounds in 2 seconds.

    • From the Low Ready, fire 6 rounds in 4 seconds.

  3. 7-Yard Line:

    • Draw and fire 5 rounds in 5 seconds.

    • From the Low Ready, fire 4 rounds, conduct an empty gun reload, and fire 4 more rounds. Complete within 8 seconds.

    • From the Low Ready, fire 5 rounds in 4 seconds.

  4. 15-Yard Line:

    • Draw and fire 3 rounds in 6 seconds.

    • From the Low Ready, fire 3 rounds in 5 seconds.

  5. 25-Yard Line:

    • Draw and fire 4 rounds from standing, then drop to a kneeling position and fire 4 more rounds from kneeling. Complete within 20 seconds.


This qualification challenges shooters to demonstrate their proficiency in handling a variety of shooting positions, distances, and time constraints, mirroring the potential demands of field scenarios encountered by FBI agents.
